to the Tenth Anniversary Holiday Gala & Silent Auction!
Thursday, November 20th, 2008
6:30 pm to 9:00 pm
There will be music, food, wine, and much more.
So many people have made donations, there truly is "something for everyone."
The silent auction, in the Main Gallery, features artwork donated by more than 60 artists.
Bidding is now open, and will conclude the evening of November 20th.
In addition to these pieces, other items, including theatre tickets, dinner gift certificates, cookies, 18 holes of golf, and a Swedish massage, will go up for bid on the night of the gala.
And we couldn't host such an event without the support of our more than 30 generous gala sponsors.
Our thanks to everyone, and we look forward to seeing you on November 20th!

Artist Renee Diedrick will lead a children's activity on Saturday, August 23 at 10:30 a.m. in our 242 Gallery.Diedrick, a Wisconsin artist, will host "Recyclable Art" in conjunction with her current exhibition "Old with New: Found Treasures" in which she recycles objects by incorporating them in her work. Diedrick used an old window as her canvas in her piece "Sunshine Centerpiece" (above).
In "Recyclable Art" Diedrick will teach participating children to create personalized picture frames with paint, beads, buttons, soda caps and other recyclable materials. Each child will be able to take home his or her unique creation.
This free activity is limited to 20 children. Please call me at 920-746-0001 to reserve a spot for your young artist.
Hope to see you there!

Party Preparations
Party preparations are underway for our Midsummer Celebration. Jeremy from Sturgeon Bay Florist has used his creative genius to turn Jacqueline's invitation design into a three-dimensional reality.
These vases will hold cloud-like flower arrangements inspired by Margaret Lockwood's paintings. Each of Margaret's "rooms" will have a corresponding sculptural flower arrangement. Jeremy is designing a waterfall of flowers to cascade down the middle of the water room (seen below). Best of all, three lucky party-goers will take home these flower arrangements.
Here is our summer docent, Patty, whom many of you have had the pleasant opportunity to chat with, touching up gallery walls. As you can see, we are ready to welcome you. Members, volunteers and friends of the Fairfield have received two complimentary tickets. Tickets are available to the general public for $25/person.
See you there!

New Home for Henry

As some of you know, the foundation of the Fairfield Art Center's permanent collection is our collection of graphic works and bronze maquettes by British artist Henry Moore. We've long wanted to dedicate one of our three galleries to our Henry Moore collection and are thrilled this goal was finally accomplished this past May.
Currently, all five of the bronze maquettes are on display as well as a selection of lithographs and etchings. We'll rotate the graphic works every few months so plan to visit often and see what's new.
In this new space, we've ditched the white cube and opted for bold background colors. Three coats of paint later we're thrilled with the results. As one of our patrons recently stated, "what a lovely home for Henry!" Come in and check it out. We're open every day but Sunday, with extended hours until 8pm on Thursdays.

Margaret Lockwood Exhibit Installation
Welcome to the Fairfield's new blog, where you will receive a behind the scenes look at exhibition installations and events happening at the Fairfield. We will also post on other art happenings, topics and events that catch our eye and interest. Currently on exhibit at the Fairfield is Margaret Lockwood: Painted Spaces. The exhibition features three rooms created by artist, Margaret Lockwood, one of cloud paintings, one of her signature tree paintings and one of water paintings. The water room required a temporary redesign of the Fairfield space. Two skilled carpenters blocked in three windows and expanded our temporary walls. One of our many wonderful Fairfield volunteers, Meghan Hanson, painted the walls to blend in with the rest of the gallery.
While this was happening, Fairfield staff was installing the tree and water paintings in the rest of the gallery. We typically have a four day window between exhibitions so everything happens at once. It's a crazy, busy time in the gallery and one I love because it comes with such a sense of possibility and feeling of anticipation.
Here is a sneak peek at two of the water paintings, which are now installed in the back of the gallery where they surround visitors in the manner of Monet's Water Lilies and Rothko Chapel.
